Celebrating 233 years of American Independence

On Wednesday the 1st of July, U.S Embassy Maseru, members of the American community in Lesotho as well as members of the government, NGO's, media, friends and families, ushered in a new month by celebrating the American Independence day.

In his remarks, Ambassador Nolan reminded people why Independence day is such an important and historic day not only to Americans but to all of us as people.

"July 4 is the date, way back in 1776, when the Continental Congress, meeting in my hometown of Philadelphia, signed the final draft of the Declaration of Independence. In that document, a young nation of reluctant rebels declared:  'We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.'"

With over 400 guests, the day was truly a great celebration. The Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Motloheloa Phooko, during his remarks congratulated America on it's 233rd anniversary of independence and the continued warm relations between the People of Lesotho and America.
