  • MARCH 8-10, 2010 

Fifth International Conference on Pedestrian and Evacuation Dynamics will be held March 8-10, 2010 at the National Institute of Standards and Technology, Gaithersburg, MD USA.  The Pedestrian and Evacuation Dynamics (PED) conference will address both pedestrian and evacuation dynamics and associated human behavior to provide answers for policy makers, designers, and emergency management to solve real world problems in this rapidly developing field.

  • APRIL 28 - 30, 2009

2009 Annual Fire Conference will be held April 28 - April 30, 2009 at NIST in Gaithersburg, MD.  NIST staff, grantees, experts from federal agencies, representatives of code developing organizations, fire and building professionals, and experts from academia and industry are invited to attend. The Conference will be held on the NIST Campus in Gaithersburg, Maryland.   • MAY 1, 2009

Real-Time Monitoring of Total Inward Leakage of Respiratory Equipment Used by Emergency Responders - May 1, 2009, NIST in Gaithersburg, MD. Purpose of Workshop: To evaluate and document the need for real-time monitoring of the respiratory intake of emergency responders; identify appropriate sensing technologies; and to initiate the development of a scientific strategy (employing both modeling and experimental validation) to determine optimal placement of sensors in respirator masks. Setting the Standard for Competing Globally --  BFRL Workshop on International Standards, Codes, and Practices, June 29 and 30, 2009, NIST in Gaithersburg, Maryland.  In this workshop, we’ll bring a range of stakeholders together for the first time to discuss international building and fire standards, codes and practices.  The objective of this workshop is to identify opportunities for standards development organizations and U.S. industry to optimize their global competitiveness through standards, codes and practices. Contact:  Christopher Currens, 301-975-8503, currens@nist.gov.

  • APRIL 1-3, 2008

Rethinking Egress Workshop will be held April 1-3, 2008 in Gaithersburg, MD and can be accessed on the web via an audio and video webcast. The proceedings and results of the workshop will be broadly published for public consideration.  Further, a follow-up workshop will be convened to consider how to implement those ideas which may have significant potential. Anyone interested in taking part in this second workshop is invited to contact NIST at egress@nist.gov.

The 11th International Conference on Durability of Building Materials and Components (11DBMC) will be held May 11-14, 2008 in Istanbul Turkey to exchange ideas and research findings on studies pertaining to the service life and durability of construction and building materials, components and systems at the global and local levels.
