Consumer Price Index

July 15, 2009
On a seasonally adjusted basis, the CPI-U rose 0.7 percent in June after rising 0.1 percent in May. The index for all items less food and energy increased 0.2 percent in June after increasing 0.1 percent in May. Full text: (HTML) (PDF)

Employment Cost Index

July 31, 2009
Total compensation costs for civilian workers increased 0.4 percent, seasonally adjusted, from March to June 2009. For the year ended June 2009, compensation costs rose 1.8 percent with both components of compensation--wages and salaries and benefits--each rising 1.8 percent. Full text: (HTML) (PDF)

Employment Situation

August 07, 2009
Nonfarm payroll employment continued to decline in July (-247,000), and the unemployment rate was little changed at 9.4 percent. The average monthly job loss for May through July (-331,000) was about half the average decline for November through April (-645,000). Full text: (HTML) (PDF)

Producer Price Index

July 14, 2009
The Producer Price Index for Finished Goods rose 1.8 percent in June, seasonally adjusted. This advance followed increases of 0.2 percent in May and 0.3 percent in April. Prices for finished goods other than foods and energy rose 0.5 percent in June after falling 0.1 percent in the prior month. Full text: (HTML) (PDF)

Productivity and Costs

August 11, 2009
Productivity increased 6.4 percent in the nonfarm business sector during the second quarter of 2009 as unit labor costs fell 5.8 percent (seasonally adjusted annual rates). In manufacturing, productivity increased 5.3 percent while unit labor costs rose 0.5 percent. Full text: (HTML) (PDF)

Real Earnings

July 15, 2009
Real average weekly earnings fell by 1.2 percent from May to June 2009. This decrease stemmed from a 0.3 percent decrease in average weekly hours and a 0.9 percent increase in the Consumer Price Index for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers (CPI-W). Over the year real average weekly earnings increased 2.6 percent. Full text: (HTML) (PDF)

U.S. Import and Export Price Indexes

August 13, 2009
The U.S. Import Price Index fell 0.7 percent in July. Decreases for both petroleum prices and nonpetroleum prices contributed to the July drop for overall import prices, which followed four consecutive monthly increases. Export prices also declined in July, falling 0.3 percent after advancing 1.0 percent the previous month. Full text: (HTML) (PDF)
