How to Join DAWN

Joining DAWN involves five steps:

  1. Introductory meeting or conference call. DAWN staff will answer all your questions.

  2. Participation agreement. An official of the hospital must sign the agreement, which covers

    • Hospital responsibilities

    • SAMHSA and Westat responsibilities

    • How your data will be used and protected

    • The selected Reporter option

    • Where DAWN payments will go.

Authorized users of DAWN LIVE! can be designated with the agreement or later.

  3. Logistics. DAWN staff will work with you to select the best Reporter option for your hospital and analyze the flow of charts to find the best access point for DAWN review.

  4. Training. Reporter training starts with a computer-based training tutorial, followed by on-site instruction to help your Reporter learn about DAWN.

  5. Reporting begins. DAWN staff provide on-going assistance. A toll-free helpline is available to answer any questions about DAWN.

Access to DAWN LIVE! . As soon as reporting begins, your data will be available via DAWN LIVE!. A hospital official designates staff who will use DAWN LIVE!. DAWN provides access codes and technical assistance, if needed. We can even meet with your staff and demonstrate DAWN LIVE! for them.
