SAMHSA's Prevention Platform
SAMHSA's Prevention Platform is a systemic community-based approach, which aims to ensure that substance abuse prevention programs can and do produce results. This new approach to prevention helps move the country closer to the President's vision of a nation in which citizens use the powers of prevention to lead healthier, longer lives.
The idea behind SPF is to use the findings from public health research along with evidence-based prevention programs to build capacity within States and the prevention field. This in turn will promote resilience and decrease risk factors in individuals, families, and communities.
How It Works
SAMHSA announced the availability of $45 million in FY 2004 which was awarded in competitive grants to States. The grants were provided through the State Governor's office, which will work in partnership with community-based organizations.
