Our Mission The Security and Intelligence Directorate (SID) develops, manages, and implements programs that facilitate the secure and successful accomplishment of DARPA's mission, while protecting DARPA personnel, information, and property.

Security Discipline Definitions
Personnel Security Process by which all cleared personnel meet and maintain the US Government standards of loyalty, suitability, reliability, and trustworthiness.
Physical Security Protection of personnel, property, and assets.
Security Education, Training and Awareness Provide knowledge, skills, motivation and awareness to accomplish DARPA's security responsibilities.
Information Security Defined as the system of policies, procedures, and requirements established under the authority of Executive Order 12958 (Classified National Security Information) to protect information that, if subjected to unauthorized disclosure, could reasonably be expected to cause damage to the national security.
Information Assurance  Protection resulting from all measures to deny unauthorized access and exploitation of friendly computer systems.
Industrial Security Defined as that portion of information security which is concerned with the protection of classified and controlled unclassified information in the hands of U.S. industry.
Communication Security (COMSEC) Protection of Voice and Data telecommunication when dealing with classified or unclassified sensitive information.
Program Security Protection of enhanced security support above that normally provided through each of the various DoD security disciplines. 
Automated Information Security (AIS) All security safeguards needed to provide an acceptable level of protection of automated information systems and the data processed.
International Security Protection of classified military information (CMI) and controlled unclassified military information (CUMI) from inadvertent disclosure to foreign persons, foreign governments and international organizations.
