The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)
will celebrate the start of the 2008 Teen Summer Job Safety Campaign on April
21, 2008 in New York City at Rockefeller Plaza. The purpose of the event is to
heighten public awareness among teens, their parents, educators and employers
about job safety.
The National Kick-off Event will include dignitaries and other invited guests
from federal and state government, education and training organizations and
Department of Labor strategic partners. Among the speakers will be:

The National Kick-off will include safety demonstration in culinary arts, first

Timothy W. Lawrence

Tim Lawrence has been involved with education and the SkillsUSA organization for
most of his life. He firmly believes that getting involved in technical
education over 30 years ago set his course for a successful future. He worked in
both labor and management positions in the manufacturing industry for nine years
while continuing his education. He received his teaching credentials from
Virginia Tech and his degree in Administration and Training from James Madison
University. He fulfilled one of his life dreams when he became a teacher and
successful SkillsUSA advisor in Tazewell County, Virginia in 1978. He achieved
another life goal when he was named the National Trade and Industrial Education
Teacher of the Year 1983.
In 1987, Lawrence joined the Virginia Department of Education as a vocational
student specialist and chief executive officer of the state SkillsUSA
organization. He also served other youth initiatives with the National Safety
Council’s Youth Division, Students Against Driving Drunk and numerous community
service organizations. In 1996, Lawrence joined the national SkillsUSA
organization as Partnerships Director at the SkillsUSA National Leadership
Center in Leesburg, Virginia and was a member of the Manufacturing Skill
Standards Council. In January 2001, Mr. Lawrence became the Chief Executive
Officer of SkillsUSA, one of our nation’s largest individual membership
organizations. In this position, Mr. Lawrence feels he works for the students
and teachers of America’s technical education system He currently serves as a
board member for several national organizations.
