WASHINGTON, July 29, 2009 - Camacho's Food Processing, a Salinas, Calif., establishment, is recalling approximately 1,450 pounds of ready-to-eat pork skin products because they were prepared without the benefit of federal inspection, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today.

The following product is subject to recall:
  • 10-pound, plastic-lined bags of "Camacho's Foods PS., URUAPAN, CHICHARRONES, (FRYED PORK SKIN)." Each product bears the establishment number "EST. 34241" inside the USDA mark of inspection.

The ready-to-eat pork skin products were produced from June 16, 2009, through July 29, 2009, and were repackaged for sale to consumers and distributed to retail stores in California.

FSIS' Office of Program, Evaluation & Review discovered the problem. FSIS has received no reports of illness due to consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about an illness should contact a physician.

Media and consumers with questions should contact company Manager, Oscar Camacho, Jr., at (415) 716-4128.

Consumers with food safety questions can "Ask Karen," the FSIS virtual representative available 24 hours a day at AskKaren.gov.
