Disease Incident Reports

This section of the site contains brief, summary information on selected disease events occurring around Australia. Detailed information is available in the Wildlife Health Information System (WHIS and eWHIS - see "About Us"). (SITREPS, or Situation reports, are also produced and distributed to subscribers for significant events.) If you would like access to these data, contact us at awhn@zoo.nsw.gov.au.

This section also includes requests for information on diseases with wildlife as part of their ecology, which we need to know more about (see also "Bulletin Board").

Australian bat lyssavirus
AWHN is currently (April 2009) receiving a larger number than usual of Australian bat lyssavirus (ABLV) positive results from NSW and QLD. If you are bitten or scratched by a bat, please contact your local department of health for advise. We would encourage submission of bats for testing if it is safe to do so. More information and guidelines on ABLV can be found below.
