Human cases of swine influenza A (H1N1) virus infection have been identified in the U.S. in San Diego County and Imperial County, California as well as in San Antonio, Texas. Internationally, human cases of swine influenza A (H1N1) virus infection have been identified in Mexico. Call for Papers: Reducing Health Disparities Among Youth: Promising Strategies

Papers will be accepted for review until May 20, 2009

SOPHE is set to publish a supplement of Health Promotion Practice in collaboration with CDC’s Division of Adolescent and School Health. This supplement will feature practice-based programs, interventions and projects that have been successful in reducing disparities affecting children and adolescents, including social determinants of health. In particular, manuscripts are sought that address HIV/AIDs, immunizations, as well as risk factors for chronic conditions such as obesity, physical activity, diabetes, and asthma... Full Story




Tobacco Quit Lines 101 – A Resource for Health Educators

On April 3, 2009, the federal excise tax increase on tobacco products went into effect, raising the federal excise tax on cigarettes to $1.01 a pack. There have already been an unprecedented numbers of calls from the public to tobacco cessation quit lines.
