Sample questions
The National Science Bowl®, coordinated by the Department of Energy, is a round robin/double elimination tournament that challenges high school students with questions about chemistry, biology, physics, mathematics and astronomy, as well as general, earth and computer science. Teams from around the country register for regional competitions held from January through March. This year's Regional Science Bowl will be held on February 7, 2009.

Last year, Santa Monica High School won the Science Bowl held at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory. With a final score of 208-66, the Santa Monica High team held off challenger Troy High School from Fullerton, winning an all-expense-paid trip to compete in the National Science Bowl in Washington, D.C. This is the fifth consecutive year that Santa Monica has captured first place.

Troy High School placed second, while Arcadia High School placed third. About 100 science-savvy students from 24 high schools throughout Southern California competed this year.
