August 2009 O*NET Code Connector website redesign

The newly re-designed O*NET Code Connector provides improved, more user friendly assistance to workforce professionals who are determining the correct O*NET-SOC codes for job orders, job applicants, and UI claimants. Key items from the O*NET Database are displayed so that workforce personnel can quickly select an O*NET-SOC code.

July 2009 O*NET-SOC 2009 taxonomy notice

The newly released O*NET-SOC 2009 taxonomy contains 965 O*NET data-level occupations. The improved taxonomy includes 153 additional New and Emerging O*NET-SOC occupations identified within 17 in-demand industry clusters. A report summarizing the update and implementation is available in our Research and Technical Reports section.

July 2009 O*NET Database updated

With the release of the O*NET 14.0 development database, comprehensive data is now available for 833 O*NET-SOC occupations, including the 117 O*NET-SOCs updated within this release. The database also includes new Task Statements for 153 New and Emerging O*NET-SOC occupations and the addition of Interests and Work Values data for 96 of those occupations. June 2009 New "Green Occupations" report

A newly released research report, Greening of the World of Work: Implications for O*NET-SOC and New and Emerging Occupations, investigates the greening of the world of work. The report looks at the impact of the Green economy on existing occupations and identifies new and emerging green occupations. The report is available in our Research and Technical Reports section.

June 2009 Updated MOC Crosswalk in O*NET OnLine

Users of other occupational coding systems can find matching O*NET-SOC occupations through O*NET OnLine's Crosswalk Search feature. The crosswalk data for the Military Occupational Classification (MOC) has been updated from the latest release (April 2009) by the Department of Defense. Over 8,700 MOC occupations are linked to related O*NET-SOC occupations to help transitioning military personnel locate appropriate civilian jobs.

June 2009 New wage data in O*NET OnLine

The Bureau of Labor Statistics has released wage data for 2008. This data is used in OnLine's occupational reports. Visit O*NET OnLine to learn more.

May 2009 OMB approves three-year extension for data collection

On May 11, 2009, the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) approved a three-year extension of the O*NET Data Collection effort. Read more about the data collection program and the OMB clearance process in our Data Collection section.

December 2008 Tools and Technology database updated

The tools and technology (T2) file provides information on machines, equipment, tools, and software that workers may use for optimal functioning in a high performance workplace. With its 2008 update, over 32,000 tools and technologies have now been identified for 427 occupations.

The O*NET Project welcomes feedback on the T2 database. After reviewing an occupation's current T2 information, you can submit specific suggestions for adding more examples of tools or technology through our T2 feedback process.

November 2008 O*NET Academy website redesign

A newly re-designed O*NET Academy website provides easy access to upcoming webinars, recorded webinars and online courses. The design and implementation of the Academy will provide you with a new experience. In addition to other useful materials provided on the Academy, podcasts have been added as a new feature to better enhance user experience. Visit O*NET Academy external site to explore the site.

September 2008 New data in O*NET OnLine

The data collection program provides for regular updates to the O*NET database. In the ninth of these planned database releases, the new and updated O*NET 13.0 production database is used in O*NET OnLine and available to download from our Developer's Corner. The 13.0 database is a significant milestone for the O*NET Program; over 99% of the 812 occupations now have new and/or updated information.

September 2008 Browse Career Clusters in O*NET OnLine

O*NET OnLine's new "Browse by Career Cluster" feature allows users to find O*NET occupations in a cluster or field of work that require similar skills. Students, parents, and educators can use Career Clusters to help focus education plans towards obtaining the necessary knowledge, competencies, and training for success in a particular career pathway.
