Fort Lee ALMC/ALU Campus
Suspends MTSS

Because of the temporary duty student load increase resulting from the Base Closure and Realignment changes taking place at  Fort Lee, the ALMC/ALU Fort Lee campus is temporarily suspending the Military Training Service Support (MTSS) program for all classes that begin on or after 1 August 2009. Students attending courses beginning on or after that date must call the Army Lodging Success Central Reservation Center at 1–866–363–5771 to secure lodging. Each student’s command is responsible for funding the cost of lodging and meals.

MTSS will still be in effect for students attending courses that begin before 1 August.

For more information, see page 15 of the Student Handbook, which can be reached here.

This suspension will not affect students attending courses at the Huntsville campus.

COURSE HIGHLIGHTS

TLOG
A Golden Professional Opportunity

Are you a senior captain, major, or Department of the Army civilian (GS–12 or above) who would like to become a premier operational-level logistician? Would you like to increase your knowledge of theater logistics and hone your planning skills? Would you like to turn your professional expertise into an extremely marketable master’s degree? Do you want to be a part of the first response team of planners responsible for creating the logistics footprint in an undeveloped theater of operations? If so, either the Army’s Theater Logistics Studies Program (TLog) or TLog–FIT program may be an excellent course for you.

Since 2007, TLog has been evolving into the premier training ground for the military’s best logistics planners. With an instructor lineup that is 90-percent military, TLog combines scenario-based classroom instruction, logistics staff rides, and realistic (briefing style) examinations to dramatically enhance planning and critical thinking skills and better prepare you for operational-level command and staff positions. TLog is designed to increase your operational knowledge, hone your decisionmaking abilities, and refine your staff skills. The 19-week course uses three planning scenarios, multiple rock drills, and general officer mentors to help prepare you for the challenges of being a theater-level logistics planner.

TLog and Florida Institute of Technology (FIT) have a cooperative degree program that grants 12 hours of credit toward a master of science degree in logistics management, management, or disaster management. Military students complete their entire degree within 1 year. TLog graduates also receive the skill identifier P1, marking them for key positions within the  planning and support operations sections of a theater support command, expeditionary support command, or corps or Army service component command.

As noted by Major General Mitchell H. Stevenson when he was commander of the Army Combined Arms Support Command, the purpose of TLog is to “develop agile, innovative logisticians who have the decision analysis, logistic knowledge, and skill sets to find solutions for complex, operational logistic challenges.”

If the challenge of being a critical member of a theater planning team excites you, contact Ken Cox by phone at 804–765–4752, or by email at leeetlog@conus.army.mil for more information.
