Mandatory ATC for retail Vehicle Tank Meters in Maine
The Governor of Maine, John Baldacci, has signed a Department of Agriculture sponsored bill that requires retail VTM sales of petroleum to have Automatic Temperature Compensation (ATC). The bill requires all new trucks with retail meters to be equipped with ATC beginning in 2010 and all VTM retail sales to be through ATC in 2015. In addition to phasing in the requirement for automatic temperature compensating meters on vehicles making retail deliveries of petroleum products, the bill also requires that whenever an item is advertised for retail sale a declaration of the price must be either on each item, on the shelf on which the item is located or on a placard placed adjacent to the item, and it adopts nationally recognized standards and specification for engine fuels, petroleum products and lubricants. It will become effective in late September.
