Interior Department Issues Statement on Today’s U.S. Court of Appeals Ruling on 5-Year Outer Continental Shelf Oil and Gas Leasing Plan

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Department of the Interior issued the following statement concerning the ruling today by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, regarding the Department’s current 5-year oil and gas leasing program for the U.S. Outer Continental Shelf. The spokesperson is Press Secretary Kendra Barkoff.

"We are carefully reviewing today’s decision. Secretary Salazar believes that we need a comprehensive approach to an offshore energy plan, based on sound information about our resources and extensive public input. That's why he has extended the public comment period 180 days and has held 4 regional meetings on the previous Administration’s proposed new 5-year OCS oil and gas plan. The Secretary looks forward to continuing this open, honest conversation with the American people as we build a comprehensive energy plan for our future."
