Facilities Projects Will Create Jobs, Support Scientific Research

LAUREL, MD - Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar, Senator Benjamin Cardin, House Majority Leader Rep. Steny Hoyer and other invited Members of Congress will tour the historic facilities at the Patuxent Research Refuge and Wildlife Research Center, co-managed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the U.S. Geological Survey, on Feb. 9, 2009, to review improvement projects that could be funded under President Obama's economic recovery plan currently before Congress.

The projects would create jobs and restore the tradition of world-class wildlife science at Patuxent, where groundbreaking research took place on the effects of the pesticide DDT, inspiring Rachel Carson to write Silent Spring.
