Radiocast: How to Ensure High Quality Health Care

Debra: This is Healthcare 411: Information for better health. All too often, people do not get the high-quality health care they deserve. Here to offer tips for navigating the health care system is AHRQ Director Dr. Carolyn Clancy. Dr. Clancy, what do you mean by high-quality health care?

Dr. Clancy: Health care quality is the right care, for the right person, at the right time, every time. This applies to getting medicines, tests and counseling that you need and also make sure that you get the services that give you the best results. So high quality care means that you get all the proper routine screenings you need.

Debra: What can I do, as a patient, to make sure that I’m getting quality care?

Dr. Clancy: First and foremost, ask questions until you’re satisfied that you understand.

Debra: To learn more about this and dozens of other health topics, go to healthcare411.ahrq.gov. Healthcare 411 is produced by AHRQ, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. I’m Debra James for Healthcare 411.
