The National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) ensures that the BLM (and other Federal Agencies) considers the impact of an action on the quality of the human environment before decisions are made and the action is taken. NEPA-related documents are required to concentrate on significant issues.
The NEPA process is intended to help public officials make better decisions based on an understanding of environmental consequences, and take actions that protect, restore, and enhance the quality of the human environment.
NEPA Document Search
The NEPA document library contains documents relevant to the BLM planning projects throughout Oregon and Washington.
Documents can be searched by fiscal year, district, program area, and document type via the NEPA Document Search form.
Ongoing Planning Efforts
Western Oregon Plan Revision
On July 16, 2009, Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar withdrew the Western Oregon Plan Revisions. Secretary Salazar has directed the Bureau of Land Management—in coordination with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service—to identify ecologically sound timber sales under the Northwest Forest Plan that can get wood to the mills. With the withdrawal of the WOPR, BLM forests in western Oregon will again be managed under the Northwest Forest Plan, which guided BLM timber sales from 1994 until December 2008. Archived background information, including the withdrawn Records of Decision for the Western Oregon Plan Revisions, is available online. more >>
John Day Basin Resource Management Plan
The Bureau of Land Management is developing a new Resource Management plan for lands managed by the BLM within the John Day Basin. This new plan will revise and consolidate three Resource Management Plans that provide current guidance within the John Day Basin: The Two Rivers Resource Management Plan (1986), the John Day Resource Management Plan (1985), and the Baker Resource Management Plan (1989). read more >>
Baker Resource Management Plan
The Baker Resource Management Plan will provide a comprehensive framework for managing and allocating public land and resources in the Baker Resource Area for the next 10 or more years. The RMP willserve as a master plan from which future, more site-specific analysis and decisions will be made regarding allowable, conditional or prohibited uses and activities. more >>
Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument
This Land Use plan sets forth the final direction for managing the 52,947 acres of BLM lands in southwestern Oregon. The 2000 Presidential Proclamation reserved the Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument in recognition of its remarkable ecology and to protect a diverse range of biological, geological, aquatic, archeological, and historic objects. more >>
Oregon Vegetation Treatments EIS
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is developing a Vegetation Treatments Using Herbicides on BLM Lands in Oregon Environmental Impact Statement (EIS). Noxious weeds, invasive plants, and other weeds infest millions of acres in Oregon. To address this issue, the EIS will analyze the effects of herbicide use on Oregon BLM lands as one of the many tools to control noxious weeds, invasive plants, and other weeds and achieve landscape health objectives. more >>
