Community Events

Events Widget

Below you will find the new Recovery Month widget and instructions on how to add it to your own Web site. A widget is an online tool that can be added to a Web site that displays or shares information from various sources. Our widget is a unique way of showcasing Recovery Month community events, so more people can learn about and attend the activities. We’ve provided instructions on how to add the widget to your Web site. By using the widget, you can help promote your own and all Recovery Month community events to visitors to your site.

Features of the widget include:

• Search: Your Web site’s visitors can search all Recovery Month events by zip code to find activities occurring near them or anywhere.
• Featured event: If there is particular event you would like to promote, you can feature that event instead of having your visitors go through the search option.
• Various sizes: There are wide and tall versions of the widgets and you can choose what will look best on your Web site.
• Share: People who use the widget can also share the information with friends and colleagues through a variety of social media platforms including Facebook and MySpace.

Every Web site is different, so we provided a wide and a tall widget for you to choose which would work best on your Web site. For example, you might want to include the tall widget in a narrow sidebar of a Web site.

Embedding instructions for the wide Recovery Month widget

To embed the wide Recovery Month widget on another Web site, simply copy and paste the following code:

<object classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" id="WWidget" width="400" height="300" codebase="http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/swflash.cab"> <param name="movie" value="http://recoverymonth.gov/flash/wwidget/WWidget.swf" /> <param name="quality" value="high" /> <param name="bgcolor" value="#663399" /> <param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always" /> <param name="FlashVars" value="featuredEvents=&displayFirst=search" /> <embed src="http://recoverymonth.gov/flash/wwidget/WWidget.swf" quality="high" bgcolor="#663399" FlashVars="featuredEvents=&displayFirst=search" width="400" height="300" name="WWidget" align="middle" play="true" loop="false" quality="high" allowScriptAccess="always" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http://www.adobe.com/go/getflashplayer"></embed></object>

Embedding instructions for the tall Recovery Month widget

To embed the tall Recovery Month widget on another Web site, simply copy and paste the following code:

<object classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" id="SWidget" width="160" height="600" codebase="http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/swflash.cab"> <param name="movie" value="http://recoverymonth.gov/flash/swidget/SWidget.swf" /> <param name="quality" value="high" /> <param name="bgcolor" value="#663399" /> <param name="FlashVars" value="featuredEvents=&displayFirst=search" /> <param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always" /> <embed src="http://recoverymonth.gov/flash/swidget/SWidget.swf" quality="high" bgcolor="#663399" width="160" height="600" name="SWidget" align="middle" play="true" loop="false" FlashVars="featuredEvents=&displayFirst=search" quality="high" allowScriptAccess="always" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http://www.adobe.com/go/getflashplayer"> </embed></object>

Adding featured events to the widgets

The code above will display the widget with a general search option by zip code. If you would like to add a featured event (or multiple featured events), such as your own activities, please follow the steps below:

1. Identify the event you would like to highlight by browsing the RecoveryMonth.gov Web site here: http://recoverymonth.gov/Community-Events.aspx

2. After you have found an event you would like to highlight, make note of its EventID number (located at the end of the title). See screenshot below.

Location of Event ID

3. Within the embed code above, enter the EventID number in the FlashVars area following the 'featuredEvents=' term. See highlighted area below:

Code Sample 1

To display multiple featured events, separate EventID numbers using the 'pipe' | character, like this: 'featuredEvents=134|109|62|129'

4.Copy the embed code. It should look like the following (with your EventID numbers inserted, instead of the example numbers):

 Code Sample 2

  5. Paste the embed code onto your Web site or blog

Changing what displays first on a widget

In addition to adding featured events, it’s possible to choose what is first displayed on the widget’s screen. For example, the search screen is typically the first part of the widget the viewer sees; however, you can modify it to display the featured event first.

You can replace the term ‘search’ with one of the following:

• search – this shows the “search” screen (and is the default)

• share – this shows the “share” screen

• follow – this shows the “follow” screen

• featured – this shows the “featured events” screen To do this, modify the same lines previously mentioned (with search, share, follow, or, featured) accordingly, in the area highlighted below:
