New UGS Requirements, continued
Currently students are only required to be enrolled in 9 credit hours. This change is being implemented in order to add emphasis to the main purpose of LANL student internships, providing support for students as they work towards completion of an academic degree program. By increasing the minimum number of course credits required for eligibility we will be able to avoid situations where student interns fail to complete their degree within the time allotted. This change will also bring the LANL UGS Intern Program into closer alignment with similar student intern programs.
It should be recognized that this change may impact the number of work hours that a year-round UGS intern can reasonably manage. While no changes are being made in reducing the maximum number of hours that may be worked, students and mentors should be mindful of the balance between workload and student stress.
