Prioritizing Forensic Science Research
NIJ develops its forensic research, development, and evaluation priorities with input from three forensic science Technology Working Groups: one on general forensics, one on electronic crime, and one on DNA. The Technology Working Groups help NIJ ensure that current and future technologies meet practitioners' needs.

Where to Go From Here: Needs Assessment
In 2006, Congress asked NIJ to assess the needs of the forensic science community. NIJ called on the National Academy of Sciences to analyze gaps in forensic science training, equipment, facilities, research and development, and funding. The National Academies project is expected to conclude in December 2007.
