New Effort Focuses on Strengthening Charitable Community's Future

Participants at the StrategyLab.

Late last month, Independent Sector kicked off an innovative, collaborative initiative focused on strengthening the future of America’s 1.4 million charitable organizations. The first step in Envisioning Our Future, which over the next six months will draw on people from across the nonprofit community, was a StrategyLab that brought together 75 leaders.

In her column for this month's member newsletter, IS President and CEO Diana Aviv describes the reasons for and the potential of this initiative.

"...But more than change is what we need if our sector is to emerge from this economic crisis stronger -- or, dare I say, in a better position to make an even greater difference in the lives of others. I am not talking about adapting to the current environment, but rather thinking about what's required going forward, so that our work in the coming years will help create the kind of world in which we want to live. We are talking about nothing less than transformation."
