“Step 1” SNAP Pre-Screening Tool (Stand Alone Version)
What is the Step 1 Stand Alone?
The Step 1 pre-screening tool enables users to find out if they may be
eligible for SNAP benefits and how much they might receive. The
stand alone version of “Step 1” can be used in locations where there is
no Internet connection available. As with the web-based version, the
Step 1 stand alone is available in English and Spanish.
The stand alone version greatly extends the reach of pre-screening
activities. Pre-screening using Step 1 is no longer limited to those
locations that have an Internet connection. Using the Step 1 stand alone
and a personal computer, pre-screening for SNAP benefits can occur
in faith-based locations, homeless shelters, migrant camps, private
homes, parks, job sites, and practically anywhere else.
Pre-screening provides useful information to help potentially eligible
people make a decision about taking the next step to apply for SNAP benefits. After pre-screening, those who wish to apply for
SNAP benefits may do so by completing an application and submitting it
to their local SNAP office.
