NCTR Centers of Excellence
The NCTR Centers of Excellence bring together leading scientists to conduct multidisciplinary research that supports the development of new technologies to answer questions that are in direct support of the FDA mission.
- Functional Genomics — uses high-information content microarrays in the development of mechanistic and biomarker data
- Hepatotoxicology — addresses critical liver injury issues by applying a systems-toxicology approach
- Innovative Technologies — uses multi-faceted approaches to address issues such as counterterrorism, rapid detection of bacteria in food, and sensors and nanotube technology
- Metabolomics — aids in the assessment of preclinical and clinical safety issues as part of an FDA-wide biomarkers-development effort
- Phototoxicology — assesses the toxic and/or carcinogenic potential of chemicals and agents when exposed to light, or when applied to photo-treated skin
- Proteomics — develops and evaluates novel proteomic technologies to facilitate the translation of basic science to medical products
- Toxicoinformatics — conducts research in bioinformatics and chemoinformatics and develops and coordinates informatics capabilities within NCTR, across FDA Centers, and in the larger toxicology community
