EWC Tigers Football Program Honored by the Jacksonville City Council 

Jacksonville, Fla. – The Jacksonville City Council honored the Edward Waters College Tigers football program on Tuesday, August 25, 2009, prior to its meeting. City Councilman Reginald Brown presented EWC President Claudette H. Williams, Athletic Director Johnny Rembert, and Sports Information Director Henry Smith with a proclamation from the City of Jacksonville honoring the accomplishments of the EWC Tigers football program during the 2007-2008 season.  

 

Edward Waters College Athletic Director Selected for the New England Patriots Hall of Fame

Jacksonville, Fla. – Before Johnny Rembert was Athletic Director at Edward Waters College he made his mark as an inside linebacker for the New England Patriots. In fact, EWC’s own Johnny Rembert was a member of the New England Patriots from 1983 until 1992 and played in one of the most historic football games ever, Super Bowl XX against the Chicago Bears in 1986. 


Schell-Sweet Center Receives a $92,695 Grant

Jacksonville
, Fla.
– The Schell-Sweet Community Resource Center (SSCR), housed on the campus of Edward Waters College (EWC), received nearly $100,000 as a result of its partnership with Family Support Services (FSS). The grant will assist the SSCRC in the support of overhead of the center. 

The Schell-Sweet Community Resource Center is receiving these funds to assist with program staffing, one of only twelve programs from cities nationwide to be selected for this opportunity. 


NAIA Preseason All-Independent Team 2008
 

Twenty-seven players have been named to the 2009 NAIA Preseason All-Independent Team, including five players who were 2008 NAIA Postseason All-Independent Team selections. Players from football programs at six NAIA institutions were honored, with Southern Oregon leading the way with 9 total selections. Sophomore defensive lineman Anens Stevens from Edward Waters College was the 2008 NAIA Independent Defensive Player of the Year, and he was one of six sophomores earning preseason recognition.

Dr. Ezekiel W. Bryant

Edward Waters College, along with many others in the Jacksonville community, mourns the loss of Dr. Ezekiel W. Bryant, who passed this Sunday, July 26, 2009. Dr. Bryant received an Associate in Arts degree from Edward Waters College in 1951 and later went on to complete a Bachelor's degree at Bethune-Cookman College and a Master's degree from Boston University.
