Searching ALL CATALOG RECORDS
[HELP]

The default search type--Search in all text fields--is useful for combining terms that appear in different fields (e.g., an artist's name and a subject), searching words that appear in NOTE fields, and conducting exhaustive searches to get a sense of what is available before constructing more specific searches. "All text" searches do not include digital id. or reproduction number fields.

Searching Subjects and Formats

This search includes words found in "Subjects," "Topics," and "Format" fields. Many subject terms are from the Thesaurus for Graphic Materials I: Subject Terms. "Topics" terms may not be found in that thesaurus. Genre and format terms are from the Thesaurus for Graphic Materials II: Genre and Physical Characteristic Terms. Some records do not have subject terms; an All Text search is required to retrieve them.

Includes names of photographers, artists, architects, builders, etc., associated with the image or the building or art work it depicts. Also sometimes includes names of donors and copyright holders. Does not include names of people depicted. Since some names are only recorded in NOTE fields, names not found through this search may be found through a All Text search.
