Federal Aviation Administration

Unpaid Legal Intern Program

Updated: 7:57 am ET February 9, 2009

The FAA is the acknowledged leader in aviation and aerospace transportation.  Our mission is to provide the safest, most efficient system in the world.  The Office of the Chief Counsel plays a vital role in supporting the agency’s safety functions and offers opportunities for interested law students to join in our work.  We offer full-time summer and part-time fall and spring semester legal internships to current law students who will be continuing in law school upon completion of their internships.

The internships are located in our Washington, D.C. headquarters.  The internships are unpaid but offer the opportunity to work directly with senior staff in one or more of our principal practice areas on a variety of substantive assignments.  Click here to learn more about typical intern assignments in each practice area.  In addition, several of our interns have received academic credit for their work with us.

We invite applications from qualified law students who are United States citizens. To apply, submit a current resume and copy of your transcript along with a cover letter identifying the principal practice area(s) you are interested in to:  9-AWA-AGC-Internship@faa.gov.  In the event you need to update your original package, please label any additional submissions as “amendments.”

We are no longer accepting applications for summer 2009. The application deadline is August 1, 2009 for fall 2009 internships. Please be sure to indicate that you are applying for a fall 2009 internship in your e-mail subject line. It is advantageous to apply early since we will begin reviewing applications as we receive them and may make offers in advance of the stated deadlines.

Thank you for your interest in the FAA’s Office of the Chief Counsel.  We look forward to hearing from you.
