District 8 Reserve Command Master Chief (Gulf Region)


 Master Chief John Lachman entered the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve through the Direct Petty Officer program in January 1981.  Master Chief Lachman attended Reserve Enlisted Basic Indoctrination at Reserve Training Center Yorktown, Virginia and was assigned to Marine Safety Office Jacksonville, Florida.  In 1984 he transferred to Coast Guard Station Ft. Pierce, Florida where he qualified as Communications Watchstander, 41-foot Boat Crewman, and Station Officer of the Day.  In 1991 he was deployed to Jacksonville, Florida and Savannah, Georgia in support of Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm and in 1992 to Miami in support of recovery efforts after Hurricane Andrew.  In 1995 he transferred to Marine Safety Office Miami, Fl and qualified as a Pollution Investigator and Federal On-Scene Coordinator Representative.  In 1998 he transferred to Port Security Unit (PSU) 307 in St. Petersburg, Florida as the Shoreside Security Chief and later as the Command Senior Chief (CSC).  He served as the CSC for PSU 307’s deployments to Boston after September 11, 2001 and then to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba in 2002.

After the deployment to Guantanamo Bay he transferred to U.S. Central Command working in J5 Planning and then transferred to Eighth District Contingency Planning.  In 2006 he transferred to Sector Mobile and was working as the Sector Reserve Command Master Chief until selection as the Eighth District Reserve Command Master Chief.

Master Chief Lachman is a graduate of the Air Force Senior Non-Commissioned Officer’s academy.  His awards include Global War Terror Expeditionary, Coast Guard Achievement Medal, CG Unit Commendation Award (4), CG Meritorious Unit Commendation (3), Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation, Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Armed Forces Reserve Medal (3) with M device, Bicentennial Unit Commendation, CG Meritorious Team Commendation (3), Commandant’s Letter Of Commendation, National Defense Service Medal (2), Humanitarian Service Medal, CG Special Operations Service Ribbon, CG Rifle Expert Medal, CG Pistol Expert Medal, CG Presidential Unit Citation, USAF Non-Commissioned Officer’s PME Graduate, CG Reserve Good Conduct (7), Transportation 9-11 Ribbon, and Department of Transportation Outstanding Unit Award.

Master Chief Lachman received a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and American Studies from Stetson University and a Master’s Degree in Instructional Technology from American Intercontinental University.
