STATEMENT BY TOMMY G. THOMPSON
Secretary of Health and Human Services
On House Passage of H.R. 1 "The Medicare Prescription Drug and Modernization Act of 2003"

I commend the House for its hard work in once again passing legislation to strengthen Medicare with a prescription drug benefit. The House worked hard to successfully incorporate many of the key elements of the President's framework to modernize Medicare with more choices and better benefits. We will continue working with the House and Senate as they move toward a final bill that will strengthen Medicare for the benefit of America's seniors.
