STATEMENT BY TOMMY G. THOMPSON

Secretary of Health and Human Services
Regarding President Bush's Nomination of Deputy Secretary Claude A. Allen to the U.S. Court of Appeals

Claude Allen is a remarkable individual who continually works to bring people together in an effort to solve some of the nation's most complicated problems. He is fair-minded, conscientious and responsible -- qualities that have served the Department of Health and Human Services and America well the last two years.

Claude provides excellent counsel and management to the department at a time when we are facing an unprecedented array of issues, both at home and abroad. I value his counsel and leadership, and I will always value our friendship.
