...Developing and disseminating science-based information and tools needed for understanding the Nation’s biological resources in support of effective decision making.
Faced with the complexities and growing urgency of natural resource issues, land and resource managers struggle to obtain information that is accurate, current, and usable. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), Fort Collins Science Center (FORT) fulfills this need by providing sound scientific data and technical assistance to Department of the Interior bureaus and other natural resource agencies. Located at several sites throughout the USGS Central Region, our research and support staff of over 150 works closely with other federal and state/territorial agencies, universities, and private organizations to generate science products and services relevant to clients’ needs. These include research reports and journal publications, predictive models and software, database applications, maps and GIS products, seminars and workshops, training, and technical assistance.
Most staff work at the Fort Collins Science Center (FORT) headquarters building on the Natural Resources Research Center campus in Fort Collins, Colorado. To further collaborative efforts, a number of scientists are collocated with federal and university partners at six additional sites.
