• Recovery for Auto Communities: The Department of Labor has electronic and telephone tools that can assist automotive workers in their efforts to find jobs, training, education, and support services in their communities. This web page describes those tools and summarizes additional resources available to workforce professionals and other intermediaries who can assist autoworkers with their transition.


• National Workforce System Readiness Report: Shortly after the passage of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (the Recovery Act) ETA embarked on a review of state and local workforce system partner agencies (states, territories and local areas) to determine how ‘ready’ the system was to implement this major legislation along with their regular formula responsibilities under the Workforce Investment Act and other workforce programs. A readiness review instrument was designed and cleared through OMB, and ETA Regional Offices held consultations with 209 states and local areas across the country beginning in mid-April of this year and concluding on May 22, 2009. The report of the national cumulative results of that review, entitled the “National Workforce System Readiness Level and Technical Assistance Needs for Implementation of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (the Recovery Act)” is attached.


• Regional Recovery Forums: ETA’s six Regional Recovery and Reemployment forums focused on immediate and effective implementation of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act within the workforce system.  Click here to view the Regional Forums Final Report.  The report highlights what was learned during the forums and how that information will drive ETA’s ongoing workforce development efforts.

Aging Worker Initiative: The Aging Worker Initiative (AWI) seeks to expand the workforce investment system’s understanding about how to best serve the older worker population and develop models to share with all local workforce investment areas.  Click here for fact sheets on the initiative and individual grantees.

ETA will be a key resource to the Administration’s “Green Jobs” initiative.  The Green Jobs Act would support on-the-ground apprenticeship and job training programs to meet growing demand for green construction professionals skilled in energy efficiency and renewable energy installations. The Act envisions sound and practical energy investments for 3 million new jobs by helping companies retool and retrain workers to produce clean energy and energy efficient components or end products that will result in residential and commercial energy savings, industry revenue, and new green jobs throughout the country. 

To better serve the workforce system and its efforts to support green jobs and the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, ETA has developed a draft green jobs framework for action. The framework identifies the foundational and operational elements required for serving the needs of the workforce system and its customers. It is designed to promote the development of new and existing green jobs, and hasten widespread employment in green careers across several industry sectors.
