U.S. Department of Justice Civil Rights Division Disability Rights Section P.O. Box 66738 Washington, DC 20035-6738 July 9, 1996 John J. Osborn, Jr. Assistant City Attorney 3939 Civic Center Blvd. P.O. Box 1000 Scottsdale, Arizona 85252 Re: File No. X ADA Complaint Against the City of Scottsdale Dear Mr. Osborn: This letter officially resolves the complaint that filed with the United States Department of Justice, Civil Rights Division, alleging a violation of title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) against the City of Scottsdale. We apologize for the delay in formally resolving this complaint. In his complaint, Mr. alleged that the City Hall, Justice Building and City Library lacked appropriate braille signage to allow blind individuals to use those facilities and to access public services located in those facilities. By letter dated April 19, 1996, this Office referred the allegations relating to the City Library to the U.S. Department of Education. The City of Scottsdale's recent actions of installing braille signage throughout the City Hall and the Justice Building resolve the remaining allegations before the Department of Justice. Should you have any questions, you can contact me at the United States Department of Justice, Disability Rights Section, P.O. Box 66738, Washington, DC 20035-6738 or by fax at (202) 616- 5509. Thank you for your cooperation. Sincerely, Kirk M. Flagg Senior Trial Attorney Disability Rights section cc: 01-00416
