President Obama Proclaims April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month

NATIONAL SEXUAL ASSAULT AWARENESS MONTH, 2009
BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

A PROCLAMATION

"To make continued progress, my Administration supports efforts to help Americans better understand this issue. Working together, we can reduce the incidence of sexual assault and help all who have experienced this heinous crime.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, BARACK OBAMA, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim April 2009, as National Sexual Assault Awareness Month. I urge all Americans to respond to sexual assault by creating policies at work and school, by engaging in discussions with family and friends, and by making the prevention of sexual assault a priority in their communities."

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month
April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month The Office on Violence Against Women joins victim advocates around the country to recognize April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month. OVW is committed to providing national leadership in the effort to confront and stop sexual violence, a significant crime against women at home and abroad. This month we recognize the tireless efforts of advocates and organizations who are working everyday to raise awareness in their communities and throughout the world.
