HRSA's Global HIV/AIDS
Program is coordinated by the agency's
HIV/AIDS Bureau, drawing upon over two
decades of experience administering
the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program and
earlier HIV/AIDS care efforts.
HRSA's global HIV/AIDS
strategy focuses on clinical system
strengthening and development of human
resources for health. HRSA makes this
happen by coordinating in-country implementation;
facilitating governmental relations
with host country and U.S. governmental
representatives, and managing grants/cooperative
agreements.
As of June 30, 2008,
HRSA's Global HIV/AIDS Program has provided
care to 477,436 individuals and is providing
180,753 individuals with ART in 10 African
nations hit hardest by HIV/AIDS.
Capacity development
activities include quality improvement,
nursing capacity development, general
training capacity development, and twinning
partnerships.
Examples include HIVQUAL
a quality improvement program that provides
a systematic methodology for measuring
quality of care in clinical settings,
I-TECH training and technical assistance
to improve local human and institutional
capacity for prevention, care and treatment,
Twinning, collaborations between agencies
to share best practices and to facilitate
an open exchange of knowledge, information,
and professional experience.
Data and evaluation
support efforts include global sharing
of CAREWare,
the electronic health information system
first developed by HRSA to track information
on clients receiving care under the
U.S. Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program.
