Commissioner Mike Connor Addresses the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee - Commissioner Mike Connor addressed the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Energy and Water Development in support of President Barack Obama's FY 2010 budget request for the Bureau of Reclamation. This was Commissioner Connor's first Capitol Hill hearing since being sworn in by Interior Secretary Ken Salazar on June 1st. The FY 2010 discretionary request for Reclamation is $985.6 million and includes funding to maintain vital infrastructure, including Reclamation's Dam Safety program. The budget request also includes funding for New Water Development activities, Environmental and Ecosystem Restoration programs, and Secretary Salazar's Water Conservation Initiative.
Laser Show at Grand Coulee Dam Resumes -
The Laser Light Show has resumed for the 2009 summer season. In June and July, the show will begin at 10:00 p.m. In August, the show begins at 9:30 p.m. For September, the show will begin at 8:30 p.m. The show runs each evening through September 30 and is approximately 36 minutes long.
The Laser Light Show tells the story of Grand Coulee Dam and the Columbia Basin Project using figures and animations drawn on the face of the dam by four lasers and accompanied by music and narration. Several upgrades to the laser equipment have resulted in bigger and brighter images. The popular show has been in operation each summer since 1989.
