The Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB) is a national non-profit organization representing the 70 medical boards of the United States and its territories. The FSMB's mission is to continuously improve the quality, safety, and integrity of health care through developing and promoting high standards for physician licensure and practice.


FSMB Immediate Past Chair Regina Benjamin Nominated to be U.S. Surgeon General

Regina Benjamin, M.D., M.B.A.President Obama has nominated Regina Benjamin, M.D., M.B.A., the immediate past chair of the FSMB, to be the next U.S. Surgeon General. Dr. Benjamin has been active in the medical regulatory community for more than 20 years, serving on the FSMB’s board of directors and on the Alabama State Board of Medical Examiners. In 2008, she was named a recipient of a MacArthur Foundation Fellowship “Genius Grant.” Dr. Benjamin is the founder and CEO of the Bayou La Batre Rural Health Clinic in Bayou La Batre, Ala. FSMB Releases 2009 Report on Physician Regulation

2009 Report on Physician RegulationThe FSMB has released State of the States: Physician Regulation 2009, the latest in a series of in-depth looks at the work of state medical boards. Topics in this year's report include an initiative to streamline the medical licensure process with a uniform application and an overview of the medical board investigations process.
