2009-10 OSAC Scholarship Application due Feb. 16 for Early Bird Review and
March 2, Final Deadline
Deadline for submitting the OSAC scholarship application for the 2009-10 academic year is fast approaching. Applications must be received by OSAC no later than Monday, February 16 to qualify for the Early Bird Review and a chance to win a $500 scholarship, or Monday, March 2 for the final deadline. Searching and applying for OSAC scholarships using one common application saves time and is free.

Oregon Opportunity Grant Adjusted for Spring Term
A combination of lower than projected state General Fund and lottery revenues and an increase in projected demand by more than 4,000 eligible students in 2008-09 has required the Oregon Student Assistance Commission (OSAC) to make minimal adjustments to the state’s need-based Oregon Opportunity Grant program (OOG), the OSAC Board announced today. The net effect is a reduction of $80 for full-time 2- and 4-year students and $40 for part-time students for spring term 2009.

Important New Changes to This Year's OSAC Scholarship eApp
Scholarship season begins in mid September with the on-line ordering of the 2009-10 Oregon Scholarship eApp Workbook. This year OSAC is introducing an all-online process for submitting applications and required materials.
The new design of the workbook is intended to help students find scholarships by the high school they attended, their academic, college major, or career interests, personal situation (student parent, home-schooled, veteran, etc.), and by employer or membership. The workbook also features a new section listing scholarships by donor name.
The eApp Workbook includes a worksheet to help students prepare to enter information on their eApp. (Paper applications will only be available upon request at 800-452-8807 by late October.) The online application (eApp) will be online by mid-October.
Deadline for an Early Bird application review (including all required documents) and chance to win a $500 scholarship is Monday, February 16. Final deadline, including submission of all required documents is Monday, March 2, 2009. For more important changes, click here.
College Goal Oregon to offer Free Help with Financial Aid Applications on January 24 at 27 sites
The start of the new year signals the time of year when college-bound students and their parents will complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). On January 24, College Goal Oregon will have financial aid experts available to help students and families complete the FAFSA worksheet and submit the online application at 27 sites throughout the state. ADDITIONAL FUNDS FOR PELL RECIPIENTS
Federal Pell Grant recipients may be eligible for additional Pell Grant funds through the Academic Competitiveness Grant (ACG) and the National SMART Grant programs. The ACG is available to Pell-eligible undergraduate students in their first or second year of college who completed a rigorous program of study in high school and graduated on or after 1/1/2005. ACG awards are up to $750 for first-year students and $1,300 for second-year students. The National SMART Grants are available to Pell-eligible undergraduate students in their third and fourth years of college who major in physical, life, or computer sciences; mathematics; technology; engineering; or a foreign language and maintain a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.00 in coursework required for their major. National SMART Grant awards are up to $4000 per year.
