New Ideas

IPTO is Looking for...

New Ideas:

What makes DARPA tick is the continuous flow of new and exciting ideas. We are always interested in startling new technology, thoughts about exploratory "seedling" projects, and compelling inputs to the Broad Agency Announcements (BAA's) that detail our approved technical programs. Please explore our current solicitations (including the IPTO Office-Wide BAA) to see if you have the next relevant world-changing idea. Before contacting IPTO, please understand we are interested in new technology, as opposed to an existing product or service.

If you believe you have new technology that matches our published areas of interest, we encourage you to submit through the BAA process. If you have an idea but are unsure it is in an area of interest to IPTO, you may send a short description to ipto_new_ideas@darpa.mil. We will let you know how or if you should proceed with further discussion, white paper, or formal BAA response.

When describing your ideas to IPTO we ask that you answer, to the extent that you are able, the following questions developed by former DARPA Director George H. Heilmeier:
  1. What are you trying to do?
  2. How is it done today?
  3. What is new in your approach?
  4. If you are successful, what difference will it make?
  5. What are the risks and payoffs?
  6. How much will it cost? How long will it take?
  7. What are the midterm and final "exams" to check for success?
