The Surgeon General's Report on Youth Violence provides a review of what we
know about youth violence from a public health perspective, summarizing the
state of the science on youth violence and prevention. The Report, which
views violence from a developmental perspective, provides an understanding
of why some young people become involved in violence and why some do not.
The Report identifies science-based strategies that can be implemented by
parents, schools, and communities to decrease the risk of youth violence. The Report's main message is that the nation is well beyond the stage of "nothing works." There is reason for hope and optimism.
