Polar-orbiting Operational Environmental Satellite

The Objectives of the polar-orbiting system program are to continue procurement of the spacecraft , instruments, launch services, and ground equipment necessary to maintain an uninterrupted operational polar-orbiting satellite system.

The NOAA Polar Program Manager is Mike Mignogno. He can be reached at (301 )817-4413 and by fax at (301)817-4403. Mike manages and plans for all space and ground data system services required to ensure continued availability of global environmental data from current and future polar spacecraft.

In FY 1995, a Tri-agency (NOAA, DOD, and NASA) Integrated Program Office (IPO) began the system, which will succeed the current NOAA polar-orbiting environmental satellite system and the Defense Meteorological Satellite Program (DMSP) of the Department of Defense. This activity is managed by the tri-agency Integrated Program Office (IPO)
