DPS STATUS AND DESCRIPTION:   Listed as a threatened species on March 19, 1998; threatened status reaffirmed on January 5, 2006.  The DPS includes all naturally spawned anadromous O. mykiss (steelhead) populations below natural and manmade impassable barriers in streams and tributaries to the Columbia River between the Cowlitz and Wind Rivers, Washington (inclusive), and the Willamette and Hood Rivers, Oregon (inclusive), as well as ten artificial propagation programs: the Cowlitz Trout Hatchery (in the Cispus, Upper Cowlitz, Lower Cowlitz, and Tilton Rivers), Kalama River Wild (winter- and summer-run), Clackamas Hatchery, Sandy Hatchery, and Hood River (winter- and summer-run) steelhead hatchery programs. Excluded are O. mykiss populations in the upper Willamette River Basin above Willamette Falls, Oregon, and from the Little and Big White Salmon Rivers, Washington.

CRITICAL HABITAT STATUS: A final designation was published on September 2, 2005 (9.7 Mb PDF), with an effective date of January 2, 2006.

PROTECTIVE REGULATIONS: Final revised protective regulations were issued for this DPS on June 28, 2005.
