The Office of Indian Energy and Economic Development (IEED) was established within the Office of the Secretary, Indian Affairs, U.S. Department of the Interior to provide high-level support for the Department’s goal of serving tribal communities by providing access to energy resources and helping tribes stimulate job creation and economic development. New Office to Streamline Oil Lease Permitting at Fort BertholdA new shop is about to turn oil and gas permitting procedures around on the Fort Berthold Indian reservation. A “one-stop shop” that streamlines oil and gas leasing for Fort Berthold’s Three Affiliated Tribes and individual landowners was established on the reservation in New Town in March 2008.“…with this office we can get the leases and permitting moving quickly, and efficiently.” ---Senator Byron Dorgan of North Dakota “We have an opportunity to be independent, to go forward and help each other. The one stop-shop is an effective way to get things done to help everyone.” --Tribal chairman Marcus D. Levings “Bureaucratic delays have held up oil and gas development on the reservation for far too long.
