Marshall Plan Home Page

Welcome to USAID's Marshall Plan Home Page, created to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Marshall Plan in 1997. This site is your resource for information about the Marshall Plan and how it made possible the rebuilding of Europe after World War II. As a keystone of U.S. foreign policy, the Marshall Plan set a precedent for helping countries combat poverty, disease and malnutrition.

Secretary of State George C. Marshall initially proposed the plan in a 1947 commencement speech at Harvard University. Included here are audio and video clips of this speech and other milestones. Also included are transcripts of speeches and remarks about the Plan by such contemporary figures as Secretary of State Madeleine Albright and President Bill Clinton.

View the transcript of "Seeing The Victory Through: Fiftieth Anniversary Of The Marshall Plan." Educators can also take advantage of the accompanying Study Guide.

The enactment of the Marshall Plan marked a new turning point for United States foreign policy. See how its influence led to the creation of USAID.
