2009 marks the 80th anniversary of the birth of Anne Frank (b. June 12, 1929). During the first half of July 1942, Anne and her family went into hiding. While in hiding, Anne kept a diary in which she recorded her fears, hopes, and experiences. It was published after the war in many languages. Anne Frank has become a symbol for the lost promise of the children who died in the Holocaust.
