Beirut, Lebanon

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID)/Lebanon Mission Director Denise A. Herbol visited Al Kafaat Foundation in Ain Saade.  The foundation was part of the USAID-funded  Developing the Hospitality Industry’s Abilities – Fostering Economic Expansion program, implemented by American Near East Refugee Aid, which was completed in 2008.

The Al Kafaat Foundation received $740,000, enabling it to enroll more students in its Catering and Hospitality Management Schools, provide a computer laboratory, and expand the on-campus restaurant where students receive on-the-job training. Young people graduating from Al Kafaat receive assistance in finding employment in the tourism sector.   The students supported the program with their technical expertise by contributing to the development of the cottage inns in the program.  During her visit, Ms. Herbol met with Mr. Raif Choueiry, the Director of Al Kafaat and toured the campus.

USAID has worked in Lebanon since 1951 and implemented development projects to benefit Lebanese citizens. With funds from the American people, USAID creates jobs, invests in youth and protects the environment.  USAID’s work reflects the strong friendship between the Lebanese and American people.
