USAID SUPPORTS FOUR LEBANESE ORGANIZATIONS IN KESERWAN, SIDON, TEKRIT AND BEIRUT

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID)/Lebanon Mission Director Denise A. Herbol presented contributions to organizations in Keserwan, Sidon, Tekrit and Beirut on February 6, 2009.

Saint Vincent de Paul received $50,000 to procure kitchen equipment for their elderly home located in Chahtoul in Keserwan.  Saint Vincent of Paul focuses on educating youth, taking care of the elderly, and job creation.

Sidon Orphans’ Welfare Society received $23,000 to procure equipment to improve the children’s library, information technology classes, the school and administration. Established in 1953, the organization provides a variety of social services to families, widows and orphans living in difficult socio-economic conditions.

Tekrit Charity Dispensary Dar El Fatwa received $45,000 for medical equipment to improve the services of their charity dispensary in Akkar, including an ultrasound system as well as equipment for the blood analysis laboratory. This equipment will benefit 350 patients per month, including more than 100 women.

Child and Mother Welfare Society of Beirut received $50,000 to procure a mammography unit that will benefit 75 women on a monthly basis. The organization’s medical center provides a range of high quality medical services including general and internal medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, orthopedics, ophthalmology, general surgery and others to more than 15,000 patients per year.

USAID has worked in Lebanon since 1951, funding development projects to benefit Lebanese citizens. With funds from the American people, USAID creates jobs, invests in youth and protects the environment in Lebanon.  USAID’s work reflects the strong friendship between the Lebanese and American people.
