The ER&N invests appropriately in science and technology allowing it to meet future mission challenges in: Science and Technology, Systems Modeling and Analysis, and enhanced Intrinsic Security.
Goals
Enabling Breakthrough Science and Discovery
The Science, Technology, and Engineering thrust includes the DOE Office of Science portfolio at the Laboratories, encompassing much of the most fundamental science research in areas of materials, chemical sciences, advanced scientific computing, biological and environmental research, and fusion energy science. In addition, the thrust develops and leads the integrating strategy for fully engaging and applying science, technology, and engineering capabilities across Sandia and beyond to create breakthrough innovation for mission success.

Systems Modeling and Analysis
The Systems Analysis thrust leads the integrating strategy for fully coupling and leveraging systems modeling and analysis capabilities of Sandia and its partners to provide differentiating capability to the ERN Lines of Business.
- Integrate and Apply Systems Engineering and Analysis Capabilities
- "Unraveling the Mess"
Intrinsic Security
Coupling of intrinsic security (i.e., physical and cyber) capabilities of Sandia and its strategic partners to enable ERN mission success is led by the Intrinsic Security Technology thrust.
