UARS

The Upper Atmosphere Research Satellite (UARS) data set consists of daily near global (-80 to +80) measurements of atmospheric trace gases, temperature, aerosols and wind profiles, as well as measurements of solar UV spectra and charged particles injected into the Earth's atmosphere.

Description Date
Range
CLAES The Cryogenic Limb Array Etalon Spectrometer (CLAES) measures concentrations of members of the nitrogen and chlorine families, ozone, water vapor and methane, as well as aerosol and temperature profiles. 1991-10-25
to
1993-05-05
Correlative Access to correlative data products created for the UARS project. These data consist of temperature, height, moisture, and wind field profiles from model assimilations, and can be used for evaluating the various UARS instrument data products. 1991-09-12
to
2001-09-30
HALOE The HALogen Occutlation Experiment (HALOE) measures concentrations of HCl and HF, methane, ozone, water vapor, and members of the nitrogen family, as well as temperature and aerosol extinction profiles by sensing atmospheric infrared absorptions from occulted sunlight. 1991-10-11
to
2005-11-21
HRDI The High Resolution Doppler Imager (HRDI) measures velocities of wind fields from the Doppler shifts of molecular oxygen absorption lines (below 45 km, daytime only) and atomic emission lines (above 60 km, day and night). 1991-11-06
to
1999-01-30
ISAMS The Improved Stratospheric And Mesospheric Sounder (ISAMS) measures the concentrations of nitrogen chemical species ozone, water vapor, methane, and carbon monoxide, as well as temperature and aerosol profiles. 1991-09-26
to
1992-07-29
MLS The Microwave Limb Sounder (MLS) measures microwave emissions of chlorine monoxide, methyl cyanide, water vapor, nitric acid, sulfur dioxide and ozone. MLS also measures upper tropospheric relative humidity, temperature and geopotential height profiles. 1991-09-18
to
1999-07-28
PEM The Particle Environment Monitor (PEM) measures the type, amount, energy, and distribution of particles (electrons, protons, and x-rays) injected into the Earth's thermosphere, mesosphere, and stratosphere. 1991-09-15
to
2005-08-23
SOLSTICE The SOLar STellar Irradiance Comparison Experiment (SOLSTICE) measures solar ultraviolet radiation in the spectral range from 119 to 420 nm. 1991-10-03
to
1999-12-31
SUSIM The Solar Ultraviolet Spectral Irradiance Monitor (SUSIM) measures ultraviolet radiation in the spectral range between 115 and 411 nm. 1991-10-12
to
2005-08-01
WINDII The WIND Imaging Interferometer (WINDII) measures the velocity of upper atmospheric wind fields, through the measurement of Doppler shifts of molecular and atomic emission lines, and temperature above 80 km. 1991-11-04
to
1997-08-19
