Rebuilding Lives
USAID's Earthquake Reconstruction Program helps the earthquake-affected areas of Azad Jammu and Kashmir and North-West Frontier Province "build back better." The program rebuilds schools and health facilities destroyed by the devastating October 2005 earthquake, improves education and health services, and increases economic well being.
Investing in Education
Since 2002, USAID's Education Program has reformed and revitalized all levels of Pakistan's education system. Through early childhood instruction, education policy reform, literacy programs and scholarships, USAID supports efforts to improve basic and higher education, particularly in underserved areas of Pakistan.
Improving Health Care
Since 2003, USAID's Health Program has improved maternal and newborn health services, increased accessibility and availability of family planning products, prevented the spread of major infectious diseases, and expanded access to clean drinking water. The program works in underserved districts throughout Pakistan.
Creating Jobs and Economic Opportunities
Since 2003, USAID's Economic Growth Program has increased incomes and employment by giving Pakistani entrepreneurs the tools they need to strengthen their businesses and enter new markets. The program expands access to credit, increases the competitiveness of small and medium enterprises, improves agricultural practices, and promotes regional energy security.
Strengthening Democracy and Governance
Since 2003, USAID's Democracy and Governance Program has strengthened Pakistan's parliamentary institutions, improved electoral processes and increased local governments' abilities to deliver services.
